HOME TOUR 02 Blushing Beauty This heritage home taps into full-throttle joy with amazing attention to detail, careful curation of art and a daring pink motif.

When we typically think of heritage homes and how best to style them, it’s never a surprise when they’re adorned with more classic and formal pieces that go so well with this period. But for a couple and their two young children living in this gorgeous 1890s Victorian terrace in Woollahra called Tarella, they threw the rule book out the window. Instead, they honoured their true personality and stayed true to their style and the result is nothing short of spectacular. With the help of Claudia Lambert, head of studio at Claudia Lambert Interiors, the property was totally refreshed, striking the perfect balance of modern and fresh while still protecting the heritage features. To bring the project to life, Claudia worked closely with Jillian Dinkel, creative director and principal of Jillian Dinkel Designs, who specialisies in heritage homes. “The brief was to create a contemporary family home, increase the sense of space and light, and take a carefully curated approach to furnish each space, making a unique voice that connected room to room. We had a clear vision to retain the heritage features and bring a modern way of living to the less functional aspects,” Claudia Lambert explains. “The colour and material palette stayed reasonably the same throughout however, the functionality of spaces changed as we encountered structural issues and discovered more functional layouts,” she adds. The clients chose a divine and daring pink motif throughout the home, which was toned down thanks to the soft shade of Dulux’s Mellow Beige, which was used on the walls and joinery to add some light and dimension. As a fellow pink lover, Claudia says getting to lean into a pink-inspired colour scheme was something she absolutely loved doing with the homeowners. “The client has a natural affinity with this colour and fortunately, it is a colour I use in all my projects to some capacity, so it was a match made in heaven,” the designer reveals. To help pepper pink touches throughout Tarella, Claudia says the marble she selected at the start of the project helped inform the whimsical palette. “After we picked the marble, the tiles were then secondary to the stone, and fixtures and wall finishes came from these decisions,” she shares. Every aspect of the home makes you feel a sense of full-throttle joy, from the abstract pink sculpture by Jean Paul Mangin that hangs above the fireplace in the living room to the more subtle pops of colour, like the pink and red artwork by Will Cooke on the shelving. Claudia says channelling happiness through art was a very intentional decision. “The decorative objects were purchased based on what brought a sense of joy and fun to each space,” she reveals. Major structural changes were made to the rear of the property, with the kitchen, living and dining areas completely gutted. Upstairs, the top floor was reconfigured to make room for a large bathroom and improve the functionality and sizes of the bedrooms. Now, this pretty in pink property is a glorious celebration of a truly unique home.
