HOME TOUR 02 Good Times Fenton & Fenton found the perfect match in Fender House to showcase their retro-inspired furniture collection. Step back in time and embrace bold hues, vintage vibes, and furniture crafted for entertaining.

SITCHU MAGAZINE When the creative minds at Fenton & Fenton developed their latest furniture collection, Good Times—a nostalgic nod to the party spirit of the 1970s combined with a modern celebration of entertaining at home—they knew just the property to serve as the backdrop for the campaign: Fender House. This six-bedroom modernist marvel on the Mornington Peninsula embraces mid-century architecture and contemporary design. Renovated with care by its owners, Katie and Ian Brannaghan, this Mount Martha property became the ultimate canvas for Fenton & Fenton’s project. “When we were looking for a home to showcase our latest 70s-inspired collection, Good Times, we knew that Fender House would be the ideal backdrop. The rich textures, terrazzo flooring, original wood panelling, and that incredible retro green carpet—it felt like stepping right into the 70s,” says Fenton & Fenton’s founder, Lucy Fenton. “We wanted to create a space that felt like it was living in that era yet had a contemporary appeal.” Originally designed by renowned Australian architect Karl Fender in the 1970s, the home underwent a significant refurbishment in 2017 under the guidance of Katie and Ian. They worked closely with Fender, who provided hand-drawn plans and shared stories from the home’s original construction. “Katie told us she hunted Karl down on Instagram to involve him in the renovation process,” explains Lucy. “He reviewed their refurbishment plans, and many of the updates they made feel like they were original features of the house.” The renovation restored much of the home’s mid-century charm, matching the joyful new designs from the Good Times collection. “The 70s aesthetic is achingly cool, yet still feels effortless. We added layers and layers of power colour, statement artwork, and playfully shaped furniture, designed to gather friends around and celebrate the good times,” Lucy shares. The collection is all about warm hues, gentle curves, and a playful design that perfectly fits the home’s nostalgic feel. Standout pieces from the collection, like the Lenny Dining Chair, Rosie Dining Table, Mimi Bench, and the inviting Homebody Sofa, bring bold shapes and stunning colours that complement the home’s rich textures and beautiful materials. “We loved working the Rosie Dining Table and Margot Chair in berry into the wood-panelled dining room,” Lucy says. “The Homebody Sofa was great for the living room, especially with that iconic Esther green carpet underfoot. It all just came together so beautifully.” Outside, the terrazzo-framed pool area offered another opportunity to showcase Fenton & Fenton’s creative touch. The Sundowner Dining Table in Limoncello was a natural fit, adding a touch of luxury to the serene poolside. “The garden views, the terrazzo floors—it was all about creating a sense of fun and relaxation,” Lucy explains. “We wanted the outdoor area to feel as though it was designed for socialising and gathering friends, in keeping with the good times theme.” Collaborating with Australian artists, including Yakob Morley, Salvatore Dibartolo and Marnie Ross, was another crucial element in bringing the collection to life. “Adding statement artwork by 10 Australian artists helped deliver extra personality and ‘wow’ to the rooms. We loved how the artwork finished the space, dialling up the personality and bringing everything to life,” she muses. Looking back on the campaign, Lucy is most proud of how well the home’s palette championed the collection. “The colour palette of the house was great for the bright and playful nature of the collection. The timber panelling, mixed materials, and the striking carpet provided the ideal backdrop to layer colour on colour with furniture, accessories, and artwork,” she reflects. Looking for more tips for your property, or thinking about buying or selling your home? Visit belleproperty.com/sell 8 Factors to Help You Decide Where to Live and Why A comprehensive guide on what to consider when relocating to a new city or suburb, from school catchment zones and affordability to proximity to parks and supermarkets. Moving to a new suburb or city, whether just down the road, an hour away, or interstate, can stir up many emotions. From the excitement of a fresh start to the apprehension of leaving an old home behind, one key question remains: where’s the right spot for you? Here, we break down the most important factors when relocating so you can make a move with confidence and excitement. 1. School Zones If you have young children or are planning to, being aware of school catchment areas is crucial. In Australia, public schools prioritise children living within their designated zones. This means where you live directly impacts where your children will go to school. Catchment zones generally don’t apply to private schools, though location can affect applications. Each state has a catchment search tool online to help you pinpoint the right areas before deciding. Living near a highly regarded school can positively impact rent or property value, even if you don’t have kids. 2. Public Transport Will you need to commute by train or bus? Is public transport important for your kids or for your own convenience? Some suburbs, especially those near the CBD, are so wellserviced by public transport that having a car isn’t necessary. Plus, in today’s world, many are becoming more conscious of their carbon footprint, and relying on public transport is a bonus—especially if it’s within walking distance. 3. Proximity to Recreational Facilities Some suburbs excel in providing clean and safe spaces for community interaction, making them ideal for young couples and families. Being near parks, sporting clubs, gyms, walking trails, and entertainment options such as cinemas and restaurants adds to a suburb’s appeal and enhances your lifestyle. It also boosts property values over time. 4. Access to Shopping and Supermarkets The convenience of having a nearby shopping strip and supermarket is important, especially for busy families or professionals. Some suburbs offer a wide variety of supermarkets and essential stores, while others might only have a local grocer. If a larger chain like Coles or Woolworths is a 15-minute drive away, this could either appeal to those looking for tranquillity or be a dealbreaker for those who prefer easy access. 5. Affordability Whether renting or buying, affordability is a key consideration when moving. The cost of housing, daily expenses, school fees, gym memberships, public parking, and dining options can vary significantly between inner-city, suburban, and regional areas. Even a difference of a few streets can impact pricing, so it’s worth comparing nearby areas. 6. Safety and Crime Rates Safety is a universal concern for everyone, from solo dwellers to couples, families, and the elderly. Checking crime rates in the area will help ensure peace of mind and help you feel secure when walking to the shops or enjoying your neighbourhood. 7. Weather Weather can be a big deciding factor. Many Australians have relocated to warmer states like Queensland or Western Australia in recent years, favouring sunshine and clear skies over colder, rainier cities such as Melbourne. If weather plays a role in your lifestyle and well-being, it’s worth thinking about it before deciding where to move next. 8. Employment Opportunities Remote work has become more common, but it’s not always guaranteed. If you need to work locally after moving, check the job market in the area. Moving from a major city like Sydney to a smaller one like Canberra or the Gold Coast may mean fewer employment opportunities, so consider what’s available before making your move. By keeping these considerations in mind, you’ll be better equipped to choose the right location for your next chapter. Whether you prefer an inner-city hub, a family-friendly suburb, or a peaceful retreat, there’s no wrong choice —just what’s best for you. Happy moving! SITCHU MAGAZINE
